CORAL Magazine‘s 4th issue for 2018 could be considered a bit retro, revisiting some of the big, bold, beautiful, and easy-to-care-for marine aquarium fishes that may have had their heyday back when bleached coral decor was the norm.

Considering that small to tiny fishes are more often kept in the modern reef tank era, it’s easy to forget some of the most personable and robust saltwater fishes, some of which become family pets and thrive for decades. CORAL Senior Editor Scott Michael shares all and will have you wanting to install a 500-gallon aquarium in short order.

In addition to featuring large, gaudy fish best suited for large FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) aquaria, our newest issue offers colorful corals and a look at the role that amino acids play in a reef tank. Readers can travel along to visit the reefs of Cuba, learn about changing the RO membrane in a reverse osmosis water filtration system, and learn all about the SPS corals of the Pocilliporidae: Pocillopora, Stylophora, and Seriatopora, truly corals for all reefs and reasons according to reefkeeper Felicia McCaulley.

Ret Talbot’s hard-hitting investigative journalism returns to the pages of CORAL, reporting on the latest developments surrounding the once heralded, now debunked cyanide test for wild-caught marine aquarium fishes.

The magazine is printed and on its way to subscribers, local aquarium shops, and select bookstores—on sale July 10th, 2018, at the best marine aquarium retail stores and leading Barnes & Noble stores everywhere.
